IS18 - Fibre Composite Manufacturing Technologies for the Automation and Modular Construction in Shipyards
Organized by: X. Martinez
The construction of composite ships will improve in quality and efficiency if new automated production processes and a modular construction is incorporated into the shipyard. This invited session will present some of the numerical tools developed to help with the design and analysis of Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) vessels manufactured with new production technologies. The session will also address the use of multifunctional materials to improve the vessel performance, and the numerical analyses made for their characterization. Finally, aiming to enhance the shipyard production and maintenance, new numerical tools based on digital twin concepts, will be presented.
All the computational methods presented in this session, will facilitate the incorporation of new production processes in those shipyards manufacturing FRP ships, and they are expected to have a major impact in the shipbuilding industry, as most of the vessels with a length below 50m are manufactured with these materials. All contributions have been developed in the framework of Fibre4Yards project, which is funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101006860.
